Webinar: “Making Interpretation Seamless: Best Practices for Attorneys”
The ABA Children’s Immigration Law Academy (CILA) invites you to a webinar presentation on tips for attorneys on working with interpreters. The presentation will cover the best practices for working with interpreters and child clients from the unique viewpoint of interpreters. The webinar will also help attorneys develop strategies for addressing interpretation challenges during asylum interviews and court proceedings:
I. Elissa Steglich, Clinical Professor at the University of Texas School of Law Immigration Clinic, will address:
- Introduction – the importance of good interpretation
- Addressing interpreter issues in court
- Ethical issues in working with interpreters
II. Adriana Morales, Master Licensed Court Interpreter; and Evelyn Eyzaguirre will present:
- Ground rules & practical tips
- Interpretation challenges
- Ethical issues from an interpreter’s perspective
The presentation aims to provide guidance to attorneys on how to better work with interpreters given the complexities to the representation when the outcome of asylum interviews and state court proceedings depend on interpreters to tell the client’s story in an accurate and compelling manner.
